..: I created Firecrag because I wanted to step away from our traditional medieval environments and try to create something that was more fantasy. Using references like Mordor from the Lord of the Rings, I began working on the layout for this Capture the Artifact map. In the map, there are two temples that both face an inner island with a massive castle ruin. Alot of custom content went into this map as I created the skybox, ash blend textures and various forms of lava from raw photos. :..

Responsibilities on this project:

  • Built the terrain layout and placed the ruins brushwork. Set up lights, particle effects and placed environment props.
  • Created the custom lava textures, ash rock blend textures and firey ground textures. Imported these textures into the Source engine.
  • Set up High Dynamic Range lighting to help give the space the appearance of glowing heat that it needed.
  • Hooked up the gameplay entities and user messages for capture the artifact gameplay.
